Just like the KW V3, at heart, the BR series is very much a street coilover, but it still holds its own on the track. One of the key benefits of the BC BR is undoubtedly the ease of installation, and once they’re fitted to your WRX, you’ll immediately notice a lot less dive when cornering.

As soon as you open the box, you’ll see BC BR coilovers are a serious piece of equipment, with a large 53mm diameter damper, which is more than you’ll find on many other coilover kits. That increases the volume of oil contained in the unit, which reduces the peak temperature to significantly improve damper performance.

These coilovers boast some excellent features including 30 levels of damping adjustment, a large range of height adjustment and pillow-ball top mounts. BC Racing also has an excellent reputation as a mid-range manufacturer, making this a low-cost coilover kit that’s worthy of serious consideration.

The HKS Hipermax IV GT coilovers take a slight diversion from the norm, coming ready to bolt into your WRX straight out of the box so there’s no need to set the ride height or adjust your damping after installation. They come with a relatively tame 3/4” drop, which provides a comfortable ride on the road. Of course, there’s plenty of scope to adjust your ride height further should you want to, with a maximum 1.3” drop on the front and 2.4” at the rear.

Like the KW V3s, the IV GTs are extremely quiet, with no clunking or creaking, and despite being marginally firmer than the WRX OEM suspension, we think they actually deliver a smoother ride.

So, which is best?

That really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to boost the handling and performance of a car you drive every day but still want a smooth, quiet ride, the KW Variant 3 coilover kit is very tough to beat. If you’re looking for an affordable WRX coilover kit, the BC BR Series offers exceptional value that we think can’t be beaten. When it comes down to competition-worthy performance, the Cusco Competition Zero 3 really is the only choice.
